Preparations underway for the Commonwealth Veterans Fencing Championship 2014

The event will run 16-19 November at the National Sports Centre at Largs, immediately following on from the Senior Commonwealth Fencing Championships which will be at the same venue.

Please note the attached document has just been issued, clarifying details of weapons control. Please note that if you cannot make the designated times for submission of equipment to weapons control, every effort will be made to accommodate you.

It will help Weapons Control if equipment is submitted by the least number of people (team managers, captains or other officials) and at the earliest opportunity on the appropriate day. Weapons Control staff will work hard to ensure all equipment is checked in good time, but your cooperation with the schedule is appreciated.

The event will close with a Championship Dinner at the Seamill Hydro Hotel on Wednesday 19th (6:30 for 7pm) Meal Information - everyone is welcome. Please contact your team managers to book tickets.

Scottish Fencing encourage participation from representatives of nations which do not regularly attend this event and are very happy to welcome the new participants from St Helena and from Zambia. It is encouraging to see this growth in representation , along with the growth in numbers shown in the indicative returns. Entries are now open and will close on 15th October 2014. If you - or someone you know - would like to take this opportunity, but don't know where to start, please contact us and we will help to put you in touch with the right people. In particular, if you are - or will be - resident in the UK, while having non-UK Commonwealth nationality, we will introduce you to a club which can help you train.

Note also that if you want to watch any of the Senior events, guidelines regarding tickets are at

Veterans Teams Clarification

The CFF Executive have considered the Commonwealth Veterans Team Event and made the following decisions/clarifications:
  1. The Championship event is for ‘A’ teams only & will be called the 2014 Commonwealth Veteran E/F/S Team Championship. It is important to retain an official Championship event & to allow all nations to enter one team only.
  2. The secondary team event will be called the 2014 Commonwealth Veteran E/F/S Team Challenge. It will be open to additional teams from nations who wish to enter more than one team in a weapon. It will also allow for mixed nation teams for small countries who may not have enough fencers to either enter a team in the Team Championship or the Challenge.
  3. 2014 CVFC Medals will only be awarded for the Championship team events.
  4. CVFC certificates bearing the CFF logo will be awarded to all place getters in the Team Challenge. Prizes may also be awarded.
  5. The entry fee for the team Challenge will be reduced to 100 GBP with no additional levy for referees.

Who will represent your nation?

This event will be run in partnership with the Commonwealth Fencing Championships 2014 and supported by the Commonwealth Fencing Federation.
